Story
You play as a boy or girl resident on an island that houses a goddess and a tree. The tree suddenly dries up, and the goddess disappears. You must restore the magic of the island and bring back the goddess and her tree.
You start out the first few days of the game living in the local inn before you are given your own farm. During this period, you are given time to learn the controls (through part time jobs) and introduce yourself to the villagers. A few days later the mayor will issue you a plot of land.
To revive the tree, the player must help the Harvest Sprites create baumkuchens (or rainbows) and collect certain badges. Once all baumkuchens are collected, the tree will revive and the goddess will return. After which the game continues indefinitely.
The player is also given the choice to start over as "their child" with the same tools and additional money. All the villagers and spouse relations are reset.

Controls
All farming chores will be performed with direct controller motions. To till the player's garden's soil, for instance, they will swing the controller like a hoe. To water their plants, players will tilt the controller downwards as they would a bucket.(you can also press A instead) The controller is expected to be used similarly when fishing and taking care of animals.
A few face buttons will be used as well. Left and right on the d-pad will be used for cycling between tools. Pushing down on the d-pad will disable all tools. The A button will be used to perform an action of some form; it has been presumed that this will be a general button for speaking with people or entering buildings.The classic controller will also be available for non-motion controlled play, although the mini-games will not be able to be played with the classic controller.
